Evening Colors

This is my first HDR attempt with water, and I don't really care for the effect it has on it. If I had the time I'd probably start over and do it with the same exposure instead. Anyway, the light was nice and I really liked the colors! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I have a limited amount of time on Am3, so I don't generally respond to comments (unless they're questions). I do, however, read them all, and appreciate every one. Thanks again for taking the time to check out my work!

I LOVE the way the water came out....I've tried to do this at the beach.....but i think i'll need to try it at dusk, since during the day,there's just to much light to get this effect....I love this one though!!! I think you did good!!

Jen, I love the colors of the light here, and I think the reflective quality of the pool really uplifts the photo. Not sure what bothers you about the HDR: as I think you've done brilliantly on this shot. Curious, what about the HDR shot bothers you specifically?

@Bill Jennings: Thanks Bill. I know I've been out-voted as far as this photo goes... :) I don't like that the water doesn't look real. I'm not sure how to explain it other than to say that a single exposure of water would never look like this. This is due to overlapping several layers with different shutter speeds, and therefore, slightly different textures with the water. It's just a personal preference.

An excellent first attempt at HDR. I have to say it is leaps and bounds ahead of what I can do. Marvelous. I love the ribbons of water created by a long exposure.

Funny how everyone loves your shot, but you!! As far as going to the beach with the camera's, all I can say is "Come On Down"...... I'd be happy to take you to the beach whenever you get down here!!

@Susan: I know... it happens. For whatever it's worth, I like the shot a lot, just not the processing. :) Ya know, the sad truth is I've never been to FL. It's on my list though. So much to do there! So much to shoot there! :)

I think you did a great job and if you don't like the texture of the water you could easily use the original water from one of your photo's ;) But I like it the way it is ... the texture of the water is great and the colors reflect great in the water.

Jen, you're the artist - and you should adapt the image to what makes you feel good about it - don't compromise your vision based on the comments of others. Sounds like the water in the foreground bothers you - can you selectively mask this, and select the midpoint for exposure from the HDR sequence - and merge in the balance of the frame with the HDR images? I'm not an expert, but sounds like you can use selective HDR? Try posting this image in the AM3 forums, and ask for specific feedback - I bet you'll get it, preserve your vision of what you want, and get a stronger image overall.

Hi Jen,

I also tend to go for this shot rather than the revamped version though I tend not to use HDR on my waterfalls personally.

I like it's softness of light & the effect on the water.

I'm a sucker for waterfalls anyway :-))
